Keyera Energy:
Bolt Tension Monitoring System

Problem:

Keyera Energy was having problem maintaining their compressors because of breakdown of bolts due to tension. They needed a monitoring system to indicate when the system should stop compressor for avoiding breakdown.

Solution:

The control system reads signal from eight (8)-strain gauge based transducer bolts. The minimum load is 0 lbs and max is 16000 lbs. These scale weight values are translated into analog output current (4-20mA). 0 lb corresponds to 4 mA and 16000 lbs correspond to 20 mA. The analog output current for each bolt is sent to a PLC system for shutting down the compressor if the bolts are under alarm condition. The alarm values are to be determined by the PLC system, based on the current value (4-20 mA).

This unit displays an alarm for each bolt on screen if the actual weight exceeds the user entered critical Setpoint value.
